Goodbye Gym: Here are Some Simple Ways to Keep Fit with Baby
I know exactly what you’re thinking; the gym is essential for staying in shape. While that may be true, there are so many pros to not using the gym after you’ve had children. The monthly fee can be costly. And a trip to the gym means planning ahead, making sure someone can watch your kids or that your significant other is home to do it, and then feeling rushed to get home again.
But wouldn’t it be better to stay in shape on your own schedule, on your own time, with little to no monthly costs, and never having to worry about planning ahead? Here are some great tips to help you keep in shape with your baby in tow.
1. Walking or Running
This one is pretty much a no-brainer. But it belongs not this list. Strap baby into the stroller, load up the diaper bag with extra snacks and water, and hit the road! Going for a long walk or a good run is an excellent way to get in your cardio while working those leg muscles. Plus, baby gets much needed fresh air and vitamin D.
2. Swimming
Babies love water. They’re natural born swimmers, for the most part. So, spend some quality time out side the house with your little one and head to your local rec centre or swimming pool. But you’re probably saying, “that’s not really exerting enough”. That’s not true! You just have to be creative. Put baby on your belly while you lay on your back and swim around. It’s a great leg and core workout! Safely slip the little one into a floater, attach to your waist and do some laps. Boom! You have an arm and core workout to add.
3. At Home Yoga
This not only applies to yoga, but any type of at-home floor exercise like Pilates. Stick baby in a swing or bouncer and roll out that yoga mat. Go through the motions while they watch, and you’ll have yourself a little yoga partner in no time.
4. HIIT During Naptime
I know they say that mom should nap while baby naps. I was never that type of mother, I just can’t sleep during the day. So, when my kids took those sweet naps, I got in some HIIT routines here and there. If you’re not familiar, HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. Basically, go hard, go fast. It’s a great way to cram in a hoard of awesome muscle toning exercises in a short period of time. Perfect for new moms or moms on the go.
5. Mom & Baby Classes
And last, but not least, you can always look for fun mom & baby exercise classes in your area. They’re often far cheaper than a gym membership and provides that workout you want while networking with other moms with baby by your side.
